I Got the Shoes

Well, I have the shoes. I went to a store that has sales people who really know what they are doing when it comes to recommending and fitting you for shoes. I explained to the very nice lady who was helping me exactly what I was looking for and the above are what I got. I had no idea real running shoes cost that much but I figure if I am going to give this running thing a fair shot I need to invest in shoes that can help me do it. Things I am already learing from this running experiment...you must get shoes that are a 1/2 size to a full size larger than what you normally wear. Ok. Had no idea why the shoes she was having me try on seemed so big but she explained you want them to fit snug over the top and instep but loose in front so your toes have run to move around and your foot can expand. Sounds good to me. Makes sense. She tried to sell me some that were pink...I politely declined those.

I think you will be very happy with your investment! I am also pleased to see that they had you buy a larger size as this validates what the people at my local running store told me years ago when they told me I needed a size 9 (NINE!) when I usually wear an 8.

One tip: when you need to replace these (I hope that you enjoy running enough to need a new pair in 6 months!), just google the brand, model number, and size and you can typically find a replacement pair for 2/3 the cost from the running store. Regular online shoe stores offer coupons regularly so that makes them cheaper. Plus you can really luck out by getting last year's color/model for a very cheap price. I wear New Balance too and the same pair that costs me $100 at the running store (I only buy them there when I need to be refitted) could be as low as $60 online.

I'm a walker, not a runner but I can still contribute to Wendy's comment. DO replace these; they will blow out sooner than you expect (or want) and running in blown out shoes can throw off your entire alignment and lead to injuries. My shoe guy always tells me I should replace mine before they really need it, and wear the new ones around just a little before doing serious milage in them. I never remember to do that, but it sounds like pretty good advice.
